A fairly up to date Linux distribution is need for this laptop, however it works fine with thus a distribution.
The Acer Aspire 5251 works really well with current Linux distributions.
Discussion
I run Mepis 8.5 using this notebook. Works great and the wireless is detected upon boot of the live CD.You only need to insert your WPA ID. The only other distro to work is Fat Dog 64-500 which also detects the Broadcom card. Most other distros don't detect the wireless network.
