This netbook was tested with Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04.
The Intel GMA 500 is not supported as standard by Ubuntu NBR so you will need to install the drivers manually, here is how with Ubuntu 9.04:
1. Go to https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mobile/+archive/ppa?field.series_filter=jaunty and follow the instructions on adding their repository.
2. Install the psb packages needed with:
sudo apt-get install libdrm-poulsbo1 xserver-xorg-video-psb
3. Restart the netbook.
That should be it but this is just a basic 2D driver, the special visual effect wont work.
I plan to write a few guides on installing this driver on other Linux distributions but for now this will only work with Ubuntu 9.04.
The is some configuration work required to get the most out of the Acer Aspire One 751. This is not the best netbook to use with Linux but still runs reasonably well.
Discussion
hi
is there a solution for this problem under natty? (11.04)? using this howto leads to the missing sources:
http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mobile/ppa/ubuntu/dists/natty/main/binary-386/Packages
404 not found
…
thx for any advice :)
This laptop works really well with JoliOS out of the box. There is some funkiness with the wireless when coming out of sleep, the wireless has to be manually reconnected.
I 'm having the same problems with my AO 751 and ubuntu 9.10
Power Managment
Wirless light
Sound
Webcam
Mic
No compiz
I use this http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1253406&page=9 for the video resolution and it works fine.
If anyone can solve these problems we can make a complete guide of “How to Ubuntu 9.10 works fine in AO 751” :P
Bye !
I had all kinds of problems with GMA500 driver and Ubuntu 9.10. UNR is too slow. Desktop after fix is 2D only. Ubuntu Desktop also doesnt seem to recognize battery options (meter, power manager options)
I have installed ubuntu 9.10 in my aspireone 751. I have fixed graphics problem.
Compiz and Screenlets run as they should be, but sometimes video playing it's a little bit slow. The major problem that I face these days is fixing the “no sound” effect. When I open my netbook everything looks working fine(You know I hear the Ubuntu drums when I log in my netbook). Then nothing comes to my ear!!! If any body knows anything about this please let me know.
To fix the sound:
1) Open the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
2) Change the line that begins “options snd-hda-intel … ” to read:
options snd-hda-intel model=acer enable_msi=1

hi there,
just one little question. I have the aao 751 and tried to install ubuntu nr 9.10 on it… live-usb-system worked but the installed system can only be started with b43-pci-bridge.blacklist=yes
can you confirm this or is this a problem with my installation??
greetings,
pyriander
