Notes
Older distributions have problems but using Ubuntu 9.04 everything is fine.

As long as you use an up to date Linux distributions you should have any problems at all using Linux on the Acer Extensa 4630Z.

i have acer extensa4630z and it is very nice its fullfilled my need but i have problem with its bettry timing only 3 hours :( and there is no problem and this is the one of the best laptop acording to me

rt2860sta ←- this is the wifi driver im using,it works but i'm still tinkering though,now i need to get bluetooth working…
heres what i did :

but the part with modprobe use “sudo su” ←- hit enter then imput pass THEN modprobe…
also “modprobe -ae” didn't work,i think i just did
“modprobe -a” … theres something i did after i finished the instructions,
this : “sudo lsmod | grep rt2860sta” ←– then wifi worked~

also wifi radar doesnt work for me, goto system settings networking click on wifi tab then “new” , input info, leave password blank if no pass needed click ok and use anyway ok … I hope I save someone the time and hassle that i went through~

Acer Extensa 4630Z-432G16Mn. Can't figure out how to activate and use Bluetooth on this machine under Ubuntu 10.4. Did anyone have such problem?
Running OpenSUSE 11.2 along with the pre-installed Windows Vista.
As stated by Duc Nguyen, the power management with OpenSuse is pretty bad. Depending on what power management options I have selected (CPU speed, screen brightness, etc) I can get 1 to 1.5 hours.
Other things that will take some work are the webcam and built-in mic. I'm sure they are compatible, but they will not work right from the install.
I've had no problem using my Western Digital external, Sandisk MP3 player, Logitech USB headset with Skype, and Reading/Writing from my Windows NTFS partition.
hey i have 1 problem with my acer extensa 4630z my built in cam isn't working,i'm a novice user this is my first time using ubuntu 9.10 so any help will be appreciated
I received my Extensa 4630z as a gift for 2008 Christmas. It has worked fine all the way up until last week. I was doing the usual surfing the internet when out of the blue it shut down. “I started to freak out thinking that i had a virus, or worse that it crashed.” I have no idea though why it shut down… I'm thinking that maybe it was overheating or the battery is getting bad. Well if anyone has suggestions to what is wrong with it please let me know!
i have an ACER EXTENSA 4630Z when i turn it on it gives a black sreen and do nothing i can hear the fan running and the cd drive making sound and run but nothing show in the sreen . can somoebody help me please

My acer (Intel Dual core T3200, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD) runs quite smooth with Fedora 11, Ubuntu 9.04. I multi-boot the FOUR (XPx64, Fedora 11 x86)64, Ubuntu x64, and openSUSE 11.1 x64). All the OS work OK but I have a problem with openSUSE 11.1.
It runs well but the battery drains fast. My battery was fully charge but it can stand only 20 minutes as I booted into openSUSE. I think there's something wrong with the power management in the openSUSE. As for the Fedora and Ubuntu, they manage the power as good as XP does.
