I am thinking to know more about this. It is really an interesting support.

After trying a fresh Ubuntu 10.10 install I had the headphones plugged in still plays through the main speakers issue. Based on youngoh's comment I added this line into /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf :

options snd-hda-intel model=hp-laptop

Now I have the headphones work only on one side issue. A step closer!

Upgraded A52F P6100 to 10.10, 2.6.35-24-generic - runs OotB. Already mentioned caveats apply (Micro, Headphone). Also I still have problems with Elantech Touchpad. Further investigation needed.

Using the Germany Amazon supplied A52F with P6100 under 10.04.1 LTS, 2.6.32-27-generic shows only minor quirks:

NO Fan Control possible - and possibly never (BIOS not ACPI)! (currently not an issue, because up to 55 degree Celsius CPU temp it's fan is running with lowest speed and very quietly)

C3 & C4 states not supported - TLP author thinks some power reduction still possible. Currently maxes out at 12.5 W appx. 3.5 hours battery life in average browsing on WLAN b/g

(was wrongly posted to K52F first - but should apply as well to K52F because both are using same mobo & BIOS)
