The C90S includes the NVIDIA Geforce 8600M which is currently not supported with the open source 'nv' module from Xorg. To get the display working you will need to install the proprietary modules from NVIDIA.
Some hardware in this system requires kernel version 2.6.22 or later. Ubuntu 7.10 work well with this laptop as it already includes both this kernel as well as the proprietary nvidia module.
It wasn't difficult at all installing Linux on the Asus C90S. You will need to manually install the proprietary module in some Linux distributions (eg. Fedora 8) but that isn't too difficult.
Discussion
I've had Ubuntu and Kubuntu running without too much of a problem. You should try installing the Ubuntu/Kubuntu alternate install disc. When i installed from the live cd I had worse luck with the hardware. My card reader worked too.
cpu
Can anyone set/manage the cpu speed like in windows?
wifi, leds, atheros.
for wireless led :
modprobe -v asus-laptop
for wireless itself : ndiswrapper won't work with 64 bits kernel.
The chip is an Atheros AR5418.
tryng to find my way through madwifi, madwifi-ng, ath5k, ath9k, compat-wireless etc. but I lost myself. Sometimes, I see the beacons (via wifi-radar, for example), but I can't connect. Any help would be welcome.
