This laptop uses the Optimus feature which combines the NVIDIA discrete graphics with the Intel graphics on the processor. You can get this setup working with the Bumblebee project.
Discussion
Has anyone managed to get HDMI working in this laptop? I am using Ubuntu 12.10, previously other ubuntu versions and never managed to use HDMI. I am able to use bumblebee or ironhide to use the nvidia, execpt for the HDMI…
Also got N43JM, I believe its graphic card uses nVidia's Optimus tech which is only natively support on Windows 7. Thus the GT 435M video card does not work out of box. Using Bumblebee can partly solve this problem.
Plus, on my N43JM, the webcam is still upside-down.
I tried Fedora 15, Ubuntu 11.04 and 11.10, the same result.
Additional comments:
Suspend/Hibernate by default does not work, due to some USB devices are not correctly unbind when turning it to sleep. This can be fixed by editing scripts under /etc/pm/sleep.d/.
Touchpad works but cannot be enable/disabled with key combination Fn+F9. /etc/acpi/asus-touchpad.sh does not emit correct command to respond that key combination. Edit that script can fix this issue.
Hi everyone.
I have Asus N43JM with Fedora 15 64-bit installed on it. All hardware features are available in Fedora(WiFi, Bluetooth, 3D nVidia graphic, sound card, LAN, Webcam, etc.). 3D Desktop effects do just fine. The only problem I'm faced with is high temperature. But I have understood it can be taken care of with patching the kernel (problem can be solved with a software approach). In short Fedora on N43JM is awesome.
