Discussion
Ubuntu 12.04 works excellent :)
Recently bought SSD drive for this laptop and Ubuntu bootup in 2s to logon-screen, it needs another 1s after logon. Perfect !
@Aleksiy: Sensors are coretemp and acpi-t
echo »/etc/modules coretemp
(as root)
And optionally install some cpufreq-indicator and/or sensors-indicator
I am using this notebook for a year. All works pretty fine, except fan controlling stuff. “sensors-detect” script just doesnt detect any fans, only thremal sensors. Can somebody post “sensors-detect” output?
How download and where? I do not understand?
Using Ubuntu, pretty much everything works, but it has some problems:
Bug #217908 (pixelated upscaled images: karmic + lucid
solved in: https://launchpad.net/~firefox-smooth-scaling/+archive/ppa
(need to install firefox from thjaeger to get newer versions working)
https://launchpad.net/~firefox-smooth-scaling/+archive/ppa
Sound apps in wine cause some trouble with flash plugin (I don't think that's a problem of this laptop specifically, and this solution https://launchpad.net/~neil-aldur/+archive/ppa is working for me.
Touchpad gets recognized as something different, and it mostly works (moving, tapping, vertical scrolling) but extra functionality (pinch-zoom, horizontal scrolling, disable when using keyboard) cannot be used.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.22/+bug/123775
I haven't found a solution for this yet
Linux: OpenSuse 11.3
KDE 3.4, Gnome and KDE 4 also tested
Installed with no problems, runs smoothly with one exception, no sound in Firefox [flash player like youtube] nor such applications like Songbird. I can hear sounds like System Opening and System Shutdown so sound is present. Have not tested yet the camera, nor the microphone. Fn functions work nicely.
Forgot to add that WiFi works too. Had some problems with KDE wallet and password remembering but that is OpenSuse problem, not the laptop.
