Hi there,
Could you kindly share how you solved the NVidia graphics issue? I installed the latest Ubuntu-supported driver, and now it is hit-and-miss: sometimes it boots up fine, some times it does not load the Nvidia driver… And when it doesn't and I run sudo-nvidia-xconfig and reset x, I have no sound!
Also, my webcam is not detected. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
Hello again,
Well, I found the issues: the newest Ubuntu-supported Nvidia card driver had to be reinstalled (MakeMKV made a change there, I think). That fixed the video issues. Installing the GNOME ALSA MIXER fixed the sound. And installing Cheese got the camera to work. So if anyone else experiences the same issues:
1. Make sure you uninstall all generic drivers and just keep the Nvidia ones.
2. Install Gnome Alsa Mixer to select your audio output (Realtek)
3. Install Cheese to test the camera and make sure it works.

Ubuntu 9.10 - Very well
Gentoo - OK
Good! I was planning to buy this laptop soon! Are you still satisfied? Have you encountered the temperature issue described previously?
Thx!
Thanks for those informations, I have just got one n61vn with windows 7. I immediately installed ubuntu 9.10 on it too, everything is working apparently, except it gets quickly hotter than on windows. I'm not too sure yet why, even simply browsing the web makes it hot. Have you noticed that on your system ? Are they any special 'laptop' packages to install ? Thanks
