Discussion
Good evening,
I bought Asus U46 last february and installed Linux Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Actually, it was not possible to install a previous version and I had to install by ethernet because the USB ISO didn't work.
The Optimus technology might work only if you install “optirun”. However, I tried to use it with my best graphical applications and there were no difference other psychological effects.
The sound is localized on the right of the laptop which is deeply logical for a great sound experience. However, I knew it before buying. I use my favorite & precise headphones instead.
Headphone jack receive noise of any USB port. For example, if you connect a USB hard drive on USB port, then your music is completed by some rotor sounds.
Wireless works. But under Linux, there are several second lag. Nothing wrong under Windows 7.
Bluetooth is simply absent.
USB 3 just doesn't work in my case. I couldn't fix the problem yet (I'm a king of hardcore computer guy).
Suspend/Resume induce some funny crashes while you restart. X server freezes. You can reboot by a “sudo shutdown -R now” after switching into console mode by CTRL+ALT+F1.
If you have any solution to fix those problems, that would be a good point to avoid buying a Macbook in the next year. I've been using PCs since 10 years, but now, I'm on my way to change because Mac … just works.
Cheers,
Thibault
