I am currently installing Linux on the ASUS-UX30. My distribution is Gentoo Linux.
* Be sure to use kernel-2.6.31 or later else your ethernet card will NOT work!
* To get the wireless card working, you need the staging rt3090 driver. It will be in 2.6.32 and later versions of the kernel.
On the whole this laptop works perfectly with Linux - but you need a *very* recent kernel. Note that there is an embedded Linux OS shipped with this laptop (in the firmware), but I prefer to install my own distribution rather than use Asus one (that you cannot modify anyway).
Discussion
Works perfectly with Fedora 15, Gnome 3. All was working out of box.
