Hello all. I REALLY HATE windows 8. Over the past year i have try a lot of linux distro using live cd. And i did not have any installation problems

Ubuntu 12.04, 12.10, 13.04 all work fine ( but i really hate unity )

Lubuntu/Xubuntu/kubuntu… no FN key for touchpad

Mint 13,14 and 15: pretty cool and like Ubuntu all FN key work

Debian weezy: same problem FN keys for touchpad don't work

Cruchbang: really fast but no FN key for touchpad

Manjaro: no Fn key for touchpad and some sound problem

I have try other distro like bodhi/e17, semplice, PC-os, pepermint, chakra, antix… whit all the same bug: no sound and/or FN key for touchpad.

I have big hand so for me its is important to be able to disable the touchpad when i use the keyboard

Now i have build myself a version of arch whit awesome as a windows manager. Its faster then any other linux distro that i have try… ok i did put a lot of time in it but i am happy…for now :P

unable to use wifi and have been forced to use this shitty Operating System called windows. Complete BS. sometimes the frustration gets way too much that I feel like throwing this laptop against the wall.

Preguiça não faz parte de um user linux, se procurar uma soluçao encontrara sempre! ;)

The same problem in Linux Mint 13 MATE 32 bits: there are drivers for the wireless network card but not for the wired or Ethernet network adapter. I will try to use a newer Linux Mint. Thanks

Hello Rafal,

I have no problems with Ethernet in Ubuntu 12.10, nor with the Wifi. I've never used Fedora 18, but with what you said I think you might have a problem with your Ethernet card, may be the driver, and the Ethernet card may not be reconnized. I've found a topic that could help:http://www.ehow.com/how_8360582_enable-disable-ethernet-card-linux.html

And this one too, specifically for Fedora: http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/12/html/Deployment_Guide/s1-network-config-ethernet.html

Rafal Woycicki, 2013/04/06 15:19

I was able to install Fedora 18, Ethernet is not working, only WiFi, but even so I need to connect to unsecured network cause it is loosing connection to protected wifi. Overall internet is very slow, sometimes 30Kb, when on the real speed is 20Mbp (checked with other laptop and phone).
Grandjean, do not you have any problems with interent?

Thanks,
Rafal

I have installed Linux Ubuntu 12.10. My laptop is an F55U precisely, but is recognized as a X55U in the terminal. So, it works, but I have had some problems with the brightness. For details, you can go to this topic:http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?pid=12933631.In french sorry. I can change the brightness of the screen but only with the code:
xrandr –output LVDS –brightness 0.5
The other problem is still a graphic problem: i can't use the Ati/amd drivers for my graphics card, only the free drivers work. Sometimes, these ones bug, not often fortunatly. Otherwise, everything is working fine.
To summarize, there are only graphical problems with an installation of Ubuntu 12.10 in my laptop X55U-F55U.

I can install xubuntu 12.04 , but only with wifi.
