You can enter any specific notes with running Linux on the Dell Inspiron 14z here.
- bootable USB keys do currently not work properly on the righthandside USB 3.0 connects.
use the USB 2.0 on the lefthandside
- To get the microphone to work (skype, audacity) ( It sits next to the webcam)
you need to have “dell-vostro” as model in the soundcard setup:
in openSuSE, go yast→hardware→soundcard→edit
change modelname into dell-vostro
(my soundchip is a conexant: find out this way from a terminal window)
#: grep -i codec /proc/asound/card0/*
/proc/asound/card0/codec#0:Codec: Conexant CX20590
/proc/asound/card0/codec#3:Codec: Intel CougarPoint HDMI
for other distro's: this is my sound.conf in the /etc/modprobe.d directory
options snd-hda-intel bdl_pos_adj=128 model=dell-vostro
options snd slots=snd-hda-intel
# u1Nb.o+O_+r79S88:Intel Corporation
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
You can enter a summary of how well the Dell Inspiron 14z works with Linux here.
Very good, works out of the box.
battery life good (4-6 hrs when actively working), I am using standard openSuSE setup + laptop_mode tool.
using OpenSuSE 11.4 and 12.1, did NOT test any other distro
