Graphics

“Optimus” is used in this laptop for supporting both the builtin Intel and NVIDIA graphics chip. You can use bumblebee to switch between the two but this can be problematic. You may find it best just to switch off the NVIDIA graphics.

Summary

The Dell Vostro 3750 works has issues with Optimus like a lot of laptops do, otherwise it works quite well with Linux.

Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. http://biggboss8contestants.com/

Could NOT install Ubuntu 13.04 from USB - it stopped every time after approx. 5 seconds during install process (last line on the screen would be something like i915 blhblah).

I read tons of pages on the net until I found this one and - bam - I got it: THE SOLUTION to this problem is this: plug in the USB stick in NORMAL USB (that is in USB 2.0 and NOT in USB 3.0). Really!!! As crazy as it sounds, it booted Ubuntu from “normal” USB port, but refused to boot/install from USB 3.0 ports (would start and stop after a while, in the middle of the process).

Grrrr!!!

Thanks for this “tip”, guys. Finally solved this issue!!!

Fingerprint Reader - ID 138a:0011 Validity Sensors, Inc. VFS5011 Fingerprint Reader - not works.

There are problems with booting of system, when any device is connected to one of USB 3.0 capable connectors.
So those connectors may be used only for devices connected after booting.

Bluetooth works fine for me out of the box with kubuntu 11.04
Graphics: Optimus seem to work fine with bumblebee
I also have 8GB RAM. AFAIK this is the max.

PS: I have 8GB RAM, you have mistake in specification

I put 16GB RAM in my Vostro 3750….works like a charm!
- i7-2670QM
- 16GB RAM
- 500GB SSD/HDD Hybrid Hard Drive
…no issues other than Fingerprint reader in Ubuntu Linux.
