“Optimus” is used in this laptop for supporting both the builtin Intel and NVIDIA graphics chip. You can use bumblebee to switch between the two but this can be problematic. You may find it best just to switch off the NVIDIA graphics.
The Dell Vostro 3750 works has issues with Optimus like a lot of laptops do, otherwise it works quite well with Linux.
Discussion
There are problems with booting of system, when any device is connected to one of USB 3.0 capable connectors.
So those connectors may be used only for devices connected after booting.
Bluetooth works fine for me out of the box with kubuntu 11.04
Graphics: Optimus seem to work fine with bumblebee
I also have 8GB RAM. AFAIK this is the max.
PS: I have 8GB RAM, you have mistake in specification
I put 16GB RAM in my Vostro 3750….works like a charm!
- i7-2670QM
- 16GB RAM
- 500GB SSD/HDD Hybrid Hard Drive
…no issues other than Fingerprint reader in Ubuntu Linux.
