With an old version of the BIOS (F02), you had to plug earplug while booting, then disconnect them to have
the internal speakears to work.

With an old version of the BIOS (F02), you had to have the boot partition near the beginning of hard disk to
avoid “partition outside of disk” grub error at boot.

The radeon used to flickers (have ghost image every few seconds … when unlucky boots),
This should be fixed by

Should work fines in recent (next) version of Linux version 5 with a recent BIOS update.

This is with oldest fimware F.02.
-need boot partition at begin of disk else grub will failed

with error: partition outside of disk

-if booted without earplug plugged in, audio card will be disable
which make pulseaudio use factice device (can aplay -Dhw piano.wav fine
however), if booted with earplug, sound works well from speaker when
unplug earplugs
-if laptop plug on cheap powerbar, will generate ghost images every few frames
(except if booted with nomodeset)
-if plgged in wall, no ghost images, until you close lid, then ghost images come
back on wakeup

Tested on Mint 19.1

Today I upgraded the BIOS to latest F1D (I think: 2008).

I had to temporarily used Win XP SP3 (XP original don't seem to detect SATA disks),
because the FreeDOS executable was not accepted by FreeDOS 1.2.
The Vista execute was fine under Win XP.

That fixed the necessity to put /boot at the beginning of disk.
That fixed the sound not present under pulseaudio unless booted with earplugs.

That did not fixed screen jumping when plugged in cheap powerbar unless using nomodeset option.

Paul Dufresne, 2019/01/31 21:39

The laptop is now plugged directly in the wall and it jumps.

So I guess this is random, at radeon initialization time.

If no luck, there is ghost image about each 2 seconds (no fixed time).

If lucky initialization, there is never ghost images.

Hi, can see this is an old guide?

But just installed Ubuntu 12.04 and the fans a running at 100% all the time.. Why?

else it works just fine!

I can´t get the HP docking station to work with the X1600 ATI graphics card. I´m using the open source ATI driver.

I have not looked into it so it might be a configuration issue

erwin, 2011/01/20 15:03

With ubuntu 10.10, works fine out of the box

Chris, 2010/11/22 00:38

Hristov, 2008/08/24 04:10

With Ubuntu 8.04 the sound is working just fine.
