The HP EliteBook 8570p works very well with Linux.
Discussion
In my case my Intel GPU is disabled and in the BIOS there is no option to activate it, but strangely enough the HP site lists Intel drivers too, mistake on HP's site/side?
Have a look at the entry for 8470 (http://www.linlap.com/hp_elitebook_8470p) for certain issues and how to deal with them.
@Danny: can you switch between Intel and AMD graphic cards?
Thanks :)
I installed ubuntu 12.10 on my elitebook 8570p as my everyday os. I run virtualbox for a winxp vm as well as win7. I am a windows sys engineer so dont jdge me!
It runs great except at the occasional updates, which I sometimes have to reinstall virtualbox. I think ubuntu is becoming as bad as ms with updates.
I run two monitors off of the docking station and have the laptop monitor on in a three monitor setup. Everything works great. I had to use a custom driver for the video card in my situation.
I bought this laptop as a replacement for a deceased Dell and the intent of running an identical Debian Testiing (Wheezy). It mostly is good; the only remaining issues are software and Fn key control of screen brightness, and Gnu/Linux operation of the fingerprint reader; automatic touchpad inactivation would be nice when a USB mouse is present, but manual control isn't really terrible to live with.
Suspend/Resume has a setup option either resume when the cover is raised or to require pressing the power button to resume.
