LINUX KERNEL IS REALLY ACTIVELY DEVELOPED AND SUPPORT CAN BE ADDED REALLY SOON
tested model hw configuration:
Lenovo Thinkpad T430 2344-4ZG..
additional SSD OCZ Vertex 4 128GB
Both SATA ports (for int. HDD and in Ultrabay) are SATA III 6.0Gbps
My OCZ vertex 4 with height 9.3mm fits very tightly and without metal case in int. HDD bay. Due to this tightness there were no air flow around it and place under left hand got uncomfortably hot. So 9mm disks should be placed in ultrabay IMHO.
Battery settings (start and stop charging tresholds can't be configured through /sys/… but tpacpi-bat works well,
in current archlinux distribution kernel 3.6.11 tp_smapi doesn't load into kernel.
mentioned battery settings app (perl script, needs acpi_call in kernel):
https://github.com/teleshoes/tpbattstat-applet/blob/master/tpacpi-bat
Audio jack has pinout (male) <|L|R|GND|MIC====(CABLE) but nokia has GND and MIC pins swapped so you can't use it, for normal sound you have to press recieve button, this is anoying.

Microphone mute button doesn't invoke any event in xev.

Discussion
Yeah this computer has been a nightmare for me. It works fine running Windows but I don't want to run it.
-Docking station uses the Nvidia graphics - discrete mode
but linux likes to default to the intel driver when it's enabled and I only get ugly VGA output, mirror copy of my laptop screen…
Maybe Windows truly does a better job at Windows….
or at least Nvidia cooperates with Windows and not linux.
i've spent too much of my life trying to figure out this technology, so here's the finger to Nvidia. I just want the thing to work. No display is one of the most frustrating things you can experience.
Works great on a currently updated fedora 18 with dock, EXCEPT for video output.
Current Distro: Debian/testing (soon to be wheezy)
Previous Distros: Ubuntu 12.10

Problems:
The system intermittently locks up, forcing me to hold the power button down until it turns off. This happened with Ubuntu 12.04 and Ubuntu 12.10 as well as Debian/wheezy.
I have a T430i using Arch Linux. With a new BSAPI and assistance from here http://volker.de/2012/12/fingerprint-gui-und-das-thinkpad-t430s/
and here
http://www.n-view.net/Appliance/fingerprint/index.php
I was able to get the 147e:2020 Upek finger print reader working.
I installed Fedora 18 on T430 and everything working perfect except the few issues.
If there is any solution?
Fedora 17. Nvidia Optimus laptop version but only integrated card enabled in BIOS. I do not need nvidia device but for model without it I had to wait and price was same.
I'm unable to get Display Port running.
With one Samsung TV - VGA port was switching on and off all over again.
With vmplayer on windows 7, I was able to load a fedora 18 that worked flawlessly
Could not install linux by either LiveUSB or wubi. Messed with BIOS settings (secure boot, UEFS/
Legacy), never worked. Having to return it because this is unacceptable.
Get an Adapter compatible with Linux,
I suggest the Pico.
Tried T430 with Fedora 17 with only one significant problem: Unable to get wireless using the default lenovo wireless option. Any suggestions ?
the solution is in this link http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi
