I haven't been able to confirmed this but there may be a issue with running the M405 with kernel version 2.6.17. 2.6.16 and 2.6.18 or higher should work fine. This problem does not seem to apply for Ubuntu 6.10.
There were no issuess in getting the Toshiba Portege M405 working when used with an up to date Linux distribution.
