Discussion
For suspend/resume/fan and Fn keys I had to do this:
Add acpi_osi=“linux” to kernel boot line for GRUB
Also some new rules in /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/20-video-quirk-pm-toshiba.fdi
This laptop is working quite nicely now with Debian Sid and kernel 2.6.33 and the fan is quiet!
Info obtained here:
http://mudangel.com/laptop/index.html
I created a bigger swap partition (6 GB ) and hibernat
Slackware 13, L355-7915- no major problems, had to do some research and mess about with some things to get working suspend(to RAM; I'm not interested in suspend to disk).
I installed mandriva 2009.1 on a toshiba satellite L355-s7902
I am having some trouble getting audio to work with the webcam
sound works with system notifications
I have not tried the card readers yet and have not burned a dvd
all other software seems to work fine
the wireless setup worked well with no trouble
install had no problems
mandriva and toshiba seem to be a good match
With Ubuntu 8.10 kernel 2.6.27-11, suspend works great, everything comes back in a good state.
I don't know if the Realtek WiFi card is supported now but i remplaced this one by an Intel Pro Wireless 3945AGB recovered from my old dead laptop. :)
Also, i find the I/O disk quite slow, if you transfert a file between disk and usb storage everything get stressed and slow.
But the big problematic is the FAN causing a lot of noise even when the expulsed air is fresh… :(
And when cpu fan turns on it never stops.
All HW and aplications working properly, but problem with hibernate and suspend - all other is OK
