Tested using Super Os 10.04. Was able to run linux on this machine only after applying a Toshiba bios update.
Tested using Fedora 14 Toshiba Satellite pro L450-17R. Runs perfectly. Installation was straight forward, beside of the WLAN card, for which I had to set some links to the driver which I had to compile first.
Runs quite nicely.
Discussion
Used Ubuntu, Fedora, Mandrivia and my favorite Puppy Linux. Puppy has worked in all categories of hardware. Modem works with Puppy Wary, Wifi works with all of Puppy without much configuration nightmares that I had with Mandrivia and Fedora.
The problem I've come to realize was a “bios” one. After Toshiba finally released a bios update which I applied, I'm now able to run Linux. I've currrently installed Super OS 9.04 and am about to update to the latest version.
Tried all the Ubuntu releases from beginning to 10.04 beta, Fedora9, Redhat8, Knoppix and Kubuntu 9.10. None of them work.
