Notes
All the tested components did work “out of the box” with a basic installation of Gnu/Linux Ubuntu 9.04 64bit.
(for the camera is necessary to install the “cheese” program)
Summary
Works great, stable and battery last longer as with Microsoft Windows Vista.

Installed Ubuntu 9.10 to Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-427. Both wired&wireless networking do not work out of the box. Ubuntu 9.10 comes with kernel 2.6.31.
For wireless, which is Atheros AR5001, the solution is to upgrade kernel to 2.6.33, for example following instructions at ramoonus.nl blog entry.
(Haven't had time to figure out the wired side yet)

I tried to install LinuxMint Gloria and Fedora 12 and neither the 2 OS find Wireless connection.
